BLocal BUILD College

Apply to participate in the BLocal BUILD College

Developed by BLocal partner companies and industry experts, the BLocal BUILD College provides training for small, local, minority-owned, woman-owned and/or disadvantaged Baltimore-based businesses in the design and construction industries.

The training sessions are developed to foster key competencies and network relationships necessary for navigating the design and construction industries. The training sessions focus on construction-, design-, and business-related topics such as strategic planning, business development, reading architectural drawings and specifications, bidding to contracting, legal and contracting considerations, change order management, project management, financial management/banking, human resources, bonding/surety, insurance, and safety.

The training sessions are led by executives from the BLocal partners, as well as national and regional law, design, construction, and risk management/insurance firms with extensive knowledge of their respective fields, such as:

  • Ayers Saint Gross
  • Baker Donelson
  • Clark Construction Group
  • Design Collective, Inc.
  • Howard Bank
  • Mahogany, Inc.
  • RCM&D
  • The Poole and Kent Corporation
  • The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company
  • Turner Construction

Applying companies must have been in business for at least two years with a minimum gross revenue of $250,000. Applicants must have the ability and willingness to participate in Wednesday evening classes, which will be held once a week over a four month time frame.

On the Johns Hopkins University & Health System Contract Management System home page, scroll down to “Vendor Registration,” click on “Apply for Registration,” and follow the instructions provided to complete and submit your company’s online application. All information entered into the system is kept strictly confidential.
