Facilities Management will be interrupting electric service to the Wyman Park Building on Saturday and Sunday, May 10 and 11, 2013 from 8am – 3pm so that preventive maintenance can be performed on the building’s high voltage electric service.

In order to conduct annual hi-voltage testing, Mattin, Mason and Whitehead Halls will experience temporary power outages this weekend.

We have worked with building representatives to minimize disruption to the regular building schedules.

The testing has been confirmed for Sunday, September 23, 2012 with the following schedule:

Mattin 8 a.m. to noon
Mason 1 to 5 p.m.
Whitehead 5 to 9 p.m.

Please be aware that the entire building will be without power during the times noted.

If you have any questions, please contact Heather Michaelson at 410-516-8060.

An electrical problem has caused a brief interruption to air conditioning service on parts of the Homewood campus. The power has now been restored, and indications at this point are that cooling service will be back to normal before any temperature change becomes noticeable to most building occupants.

The electrical outage affected the south power plant and adjacent Whitehead Hall. The south power plant is one of two locations on campus where water is chilled for air conditioning. The other location, the north chiller plant, remained in operation throughout the electrical outage. Building cooling on campus was switched to “winter mode,” ensuring that server rooms and other areas where cooling is a priority were covered. The switch back to normal “summer mode” operations will occur soon.

The campus incident command team is monitoring the situation; we will communicate with you again if developments warrant.

Questions or concerns can be directed to Plant Operations at (410) 516-8063 or

Plant Operations needs to repair a steam leak in the Ames Building.  The steam line that feeds the autoclaves and humidification systems will need to be taken down in order to make the extensive repair.

This will affect the autoclaves and 4th floor cage washer, neither will be operable.

The basement cage wash WILL be operable.

Building heat will not be affected.

We will need up to two days to complete the work.  Look for an announcement tomorrow for the end date and time.
