Charles Village Streetscape
Project Summary
The Charles Village Streetscape project is the culmination of a multi-year effort with the community, local business owners, Johns Hopkins University, and Baltimore City DOT to enhance Charles Village.
Project Goals
- Install high quality, pedestrian friendly streetscape components to enhance the neighborhood and retail district in Charles Village.
- Improve the 33rd Street corridor from Charles Street to St. Paul Street to create a gateway from the Johns Hopkins University to the Charles Village Retail District Center.
- Improve the intersections of St. Paul Street from 31st Street to 33rd Street by installing new traffic signals, modifying lane configurations, and enhancing pedestrian safety, while maintaining two-way traffic.
- Maintain or increase parking for businesses along St. Paul Street
What you need to know about this Project
The project scope includes streetscape and landscape improvements along St. Paul Street from 31st Street to 33rd Street, as well as along 33rd Street from Charles Street to St. Paul Street. These improvements include brick crosswalks, improved lighting, enhanced landscaping, new benches and trash/recycling receptacles, brick banding along select sidewalks, improved medians, granite curbs, as well as new asphalt paving in the project area.
This project is scheduled to begin in late March, 2019, and is expected to be completed in December, 2019. The project will be conducted in phases. View the Charles Village Streetscape Phases for details.
